Mundaring Weir Main Switchboard Shutdown

Overview

In July of 2010 Hender Lee Electrical were engaged by the Water Corporation to perform a shutdown on the site main switchboard at Mundaring Weir to install a new Weir Mains Cable.

The shutdown was required to install an upgraded mains cable size to the weir wall electrical system cable.

Hender Lee Electrical was required to perform the works with a limited time for the shutdown on the switchboard. The shutdown was critical and had to be back operational on time. We consulted with the Water Corporation and delivered the project in under expected time frames.

The scope also included the supply and installation of a new Stainless steel cable ladder system through the dam wall tunnel, a new distribution board, new mains cabling to the dam wall, lighting systems and power outlets, the change out of existing switchboards all done around strict shut down times.

Scope

  • Underground conduit system

  • Capstone removal for conduit access

  • The Upgrade of the main weir feeder, New Switchboards, Control systems & Seismic Monitoring Units

  • Stainless Steel Cable ladder and Cable Support within the weir wall all done within confined space working areas

  • Tunnel lighting

  • Commissioning & Testing

Challenges

The works involved complex access arrangements, permit systems and intense liaison with The Water Corporation.
